How to Create a Blog

I have been posting quite a bit lately on how to build visibility to your blog and so I wanted to provide those of you who do not know how to get a blog started with a video that explains how to do this.

Please see this link – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnploFsS_tY

It explains how to create a blog using http://www.blogger.com – this is the service I first started on and is probably the easiest to use.

I now use http://www.wordpress.com and find it to be much better – click on this link to see a how-to video on setting up a blog with wordpress – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxGexNrGV0s

It is free so give it a try if you do not already have a blog!

  1. Hi John: I’m interested in starting a website where readers can see my list of previous publications…or would a blog be a better approach? I guess I’m not sure of the different benefits each provides.

    Thanks.

  2. Hey Peter

The basic difference is that a website should remain fairly static over time in layout and components. The blog’s layout can remain constant if you like, but the components constantly are updated so that readers always have something fresh.

In your case I would recommend a website to host your past writings and then possibly start a blog for future writings/ideas to be expressed. Many people place the blog as a section on their website as this gives people a reason to keep coming back to the site. When they keep coming back they see your speaking engagements, books, or other products you have on the site.

    Does this help?

  3. It’s so great you’re giving the basics. Just what I need. Thanks.
